LoRa® Basics | LoRa® Technology Modulation & Data Rate |
LoRa® technology is categorized as a low-power wide area networking solution.
The technology consists of two major components:
- The LoRa spread-spectrum modulation scheme was developed by Semtech® and incorporated into their SX transceiver and gateway integrated circuits.
- And the LoRaWAN® Media Access Control (MAC) protocol for wide area networks. The LoRaWAN protocols are defined by the LoRa Alliance® and formalized in the LoRaWAN Specification which can be downloaded from the LoRa Alliance website.
In this lesson, we review the benefits of LoRa technology, the system topology, and major components. We will also explore the key parameters that must be considered when developing a LoRaWAN application.
