Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) is a LoRaWAN® mechanism that strives to maximize the capacity of the network by increasing the end device’s Data Rate (DR) based on parameters reported by the gateway. The goal here is to minimize the on-air time. The end-node can decide whether ADR is used or not. Most network providers recommend that ADR be turned on. ADR is a particularly good option for optimizing power consumption for end-nodes that regularly hop from one network to another.

In this lesson, we discuss ADR and provide best practice suggestions for optimizing your DR and payload size.
