LoRa® uses a proprietary, chirped-FM spread-spectrum modulation scheme developed by Semtech® Corporation. Spread-spectrum modulation spreads the energy of each transmitted bit of information over many frequencies, providing increased receive sensitivity, at the expense of lower data rate.
In this lesson, we review key LoRa modulation parameters (Spreading Factor, Bandwidth), with a focus on the US region parameters (frequency band, channel assignment, and expected data rates, DRx). We also discuss the tradeoff between Data Rate setting and payload size.
