Mass Storage
There are three mass storage options available on the development board.
4 Gb NAND Flash (U5)
U3 is a 4 Gb (512M x 8) NAND Flash memory (Macronix MX30LF4G28AD-XKI). It is connected to the NAND Flash controller of the SAM9X75D2G.
64 Mb Serial Quad I/O (SQI) Flash Device with EUI-48 and EUI-64 (U6)
U6 is a 64 Mb Serial Quad I/O™ (SQI™) flash device with EUI-48 and EUI-64 memory (Microchip SST26VF064BEUI). It is connected to the Quad SPI Interface peripheral of the SAM9x75D2G.
Micro Secure Digital (J14)
J14 is a microSD memory card slot. It is connected to the Secure Digital MultiMediaCard port 0 (SDMMC0) peripheral of the SAM9X75D2G.
Communications
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board provides wired communications via Ethernet, USB, and CAN.
Ethernet (J17)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board features a Gigabit Ethernet interface through a SODIMM 260-pin connector. The SAM9X75 Curiosity LAN kit comes with a LAN8840 EDS2 daughter card to evaluate the Microchip LAN8840 Gigabit Ethernet RGMII Ethernet PHYOne Gigabit Ethernet interface through the SODIMM 260-pin connector.
CAN Interface
The SAM9X75-Curiosity board shares the CAN interface with the UART signals of the mikroBUS™ connector (J25). Use the mikroBUS Click MIKROE-2299 that embeds a Microchip MCP2542WFD to connect the SAM9X75 Curiosity to a CAN.
USB (J2, J15 and J16)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board features three USB communication ports (J2 - USB 2.0 Micro-B (USB-A), J15 - USB Type-A (USB-B), J16 - USB Type-A (USB-C)).
The USB-A port acts only as a USB device interface and is accessed via USB Micro-B connector J7.
The USB-B and USB-C ports are connected to the stacked USB Type-A connecter (J15 & J16). Each port can act both as a device and as a host.
Wireless M.2 interface (J20)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity board embeds an M.2 connector to interconnect with wireless modules. M.2 (formerly known as NGFF) is a small form factor card and connector that supports applications such as Wi-Fi®, WLAN, USB, PCIe® and SATA, as defined in the PCI-SIG® M.2 Specification. The default interface used with the wireless module solution is the SDIO. However, the wireless module can be controlled in SPI mode and configuration can be performed manually by the end user. The interface is based on a 67-pin connector and includes a clock, SDIO/SPI interface, USART Interface, wake-up/interrupt, reset, and power lines.
Debugging
There is one method of debugging the SAM9X75 Curiosity Development board via JTAG. In addition, a console serial communication port (J11) is available for debugging.
JTAG (J34)
A JTAG interface to the SAM9X75-Curiosity is provided by 20-pin connector J34. This facilitates software development and debugging by connecting an external JTAG debugger such as the MPLAB® PICkit™ 5 In-Circuit Debugger or J-32 Debug Probe.
Serial UART Debug Port (J35)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board features a dedicated serial UART port (J35) (3.3 VDC TTL level) for communicating with the target console.
User Interface
Red-Green-Blue (RGB) LED (LD1)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board features one RGB LED (LD1).
Pushbuttons (SW1-SW4)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board contains four push buttons:
- USER (SW1): User push button which is available for user’s usage
- WKUP (SW2): Will wake up the processor when it has been shut down by software
- RESET (SW3): Reset push button, when pressed the system resets
- START (SW4): When pressed, the PMIC start-up sequence is initiated if the buck converters are off
LCD Interface (J28, J29)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board contains both LVDS display interface(J28) and MIPI display serial interface(J29).
Compatible Microchip LCD modules (LVDS Display AC69T88A and MIPI DSI AC40T08A ) can be connected to the SAM9X75 Curiosity board.
MIPI CSI/DSI (J29)
The SAM9X75-Curiosity board embeds a 4-lane MIPI D-PHY for interfacing with CSI-compatible cameras and DSI-compatible displays.
Expansion
mikroBUS™ (25)
The mikroBUS socket is a proprietary communication and plugin standard for small interface boards called Click boards™ that extends the capabilities of the development board by offering SPI, UART, TWI, and PWM-based sensors and devices. They are made by MikroElektronika, a producer and retailer of hardware and software tools for developing embedded systems.
GPIO/Raspberry Pi Connector(J27)
The SAM9X75 Curiosity Development Board contains a 40-pin GPIO connector (J27) for use. This connector is compatible with the Raspberry Pi expansion header.
Power Options
Two options are available to power up the SAM9X75-Curiosity board, powering through the jack connector (J1) or powering through the USB Micro-B connector on the USBA port (J2).
